Mom
I remember one summer when you were with me when you were about 9 or 10. We were living in the mobile home park, and you loved being able to ride your bike around the area. I stepped outside onto the steps and one of my neighbors pulled up and asked me if I was your mom. I said yes and he told me that you had gotten hurt while riding your bike. I went up to the front of the apartments where a group of people were circled around you. You were lying on the ground and bleeding a bit from your nose. I ran over to see if you were ok. You had a few superficial wounds. I asked you what had happened... You said, "I was riding my bike and I ran into the stop sign!" I said, "WHAT?! I think that stop sign jumped right out in front of you and hit you! Those crazy stop signs are deadly!" You started laughing. You were laughing AND crying at the same time! I miss your laugh. You had that contagious laugh that made EVERYBODY laugh with you. I would give anything to hear that again...

It's impossible to believe it has been nearly three years since you left us. And yet, we know you are still around because we see you all the time. Last week, we saw you riding in the open back of a Jeep, laughing, with the wind blowing your hair. We also saw you sitting on a stool, spinning in circles and giggling like mad, at the eyeglass shop. Each time we "see" you now, it brings us joy, tinged with only a slight wistfulness. The acute grief dissipates, but your loss will be felt for the rest of our lives.

You've been on my mind a lot lately. Jasmine and I talk about you everyday. I miss you Matthew. I miss you with every part of my being. You'd be 16 now. I often wonder how you would look, how tall you would be, what you're voice would sound like... I feel robbed that I never got to see any of that. You would be driving now.. AAHH! Lol. I remember when you were here that summer of 2008. You asked me several times if you could drive my car around the apartment parking lot, Lol. Now I almost wish I would have let you, just so you would have had that experience before God took you. There are so many things you didn't get to experience, but, I know that where you are at now, in heaven, is better is better than any experience or place on this earth. I know that you are happy, and at peace. I love you my sweet spirit...
Mom

I remember one morning this past summer when you were here with me.... I was trying to wake you up to let you know that I was headed off to work. You were in such a deep sleep that rubbing your head or stroking your cheek as I would usually do wasn't waking you at all. I shook you a little bit to try and wake you and you opened your eyes, sat straight up in bed and yelled, "CHICKEN!!" And you just flopped back down in bed and was fast asleep again. Oh my gosh I could NOT stop laughing! That was so funny!

We recall, when you were staying with us, how much you enjoyed your freedom. You would get on your bike and ride for hours, stopping every so often to "check in" and let us know you were OK. We will never forget the sight of you pedaling like mad down the dirt road to our house, asking if we could have hotdish and cantaloupe for supper. Do you know Leroy cried when we told him the news? We know you idolized him; we hope you know how much your friendship meant to him, as well.
